APRIL 2014 NEWSLETTER

SPRING BREAK – APRIL 14-19

If you are NOT enrolled in Auto-Pay, Remember April Tuition must be received before April first.  Late fee WILL apply on April 10th!!

REGULAR ATTENDANCE BETWEEN NOW & RECITAL IS IMPERATIVE!

Hopefully spring weather is here and everyone will be well!  Lack of regular attendance could cause teachers to remove a student from a routine.  The last day of regular classes is Saturday, June 21.  In addition to Spring Break, we are closed Memorial Weekend May 23-26.   All other dates, students should attend regularly and on time.  If your student will be unable to participate in the recital, please let the teacher know immediately so we can plan accordingly.

PLEASE READ THIS NEWSLETTER CAREFULLY.  ALL RECITAL POLICIES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED OVER THE LAST 38 YEARS FOR GOOD REASONS.   PARENTAL SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL!  If this is your first recital with our studio, please refer to the recital section of our website and click on “Helpful Hints.”  It was put together by parents to make the recital experience easier for students and parents.

Photos

Photos will be taken of all students in full costume at the dance studio.  Teachers will give you specific days and times for your class photos on parent day.  PLEASE ARRIVE AT LEAST ONE HALF HOUR EARLY TO BE DRESSED AND READY AT THE APPOINTED TIME. The photographer will photograph all students in class pictures.   It does not obligate you to purchase a photo.  PARENTS WHO WISH TO HAVE STUDENTS PHTOGRAPHED INDIVIDUALLY WILL HAVE TO FILL OUT AN ENVELOPE AND PRE-PAY THE ORDER DIRECTLY TO THE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPANY. There will be a flier with more information coming from Splendid Portraits. If your student will not be at the scheduled photo time, please let the teacher know in advance. Class photos cannot be made up.  Individuals can be rescheduled.

HAIR & MAKEUP - Students must look the same in dance portraits as they will look on stage.  This includes hair & makeup.  No jewelry or nail polish can be worn.  MAKEUP SHOULD BE PURCHASED FROM THE STUDIO OFFICE SO ALL STUDENTS ARE ALIKE! Teachers will explain more about makeup on parent day.  Student’s hair must also be uniform within the class. Teachers will explain on parent day how hair should be for each routine.   Nothing can be worn in hair except what goes with the costume. If there are questions, please see the teacher of the routine.

ACCESSORIES – Be sure to have all accessories prior to picture day.  Most classes received new performance tights with their costumes. Check the size before opening packages. Tights can only be exchanged before opening.

Extra tights are also available.  Teachers will let you know of any other accessories.  BE SURE STUDENT’S NAME IS IN ALL PARTS TO ALL COSTUMES AND ALSO IN SHOES. Uniformity within each class is imperative.  LAST DAY TO ORDER NEW SHOES THROUGH THE STUDIO IS MAY 3RD. All dance shoes must be clean.  Strings on ballet slippers must be tucked in for photos and performances.  Students should also have extra bobby pins and safety pins at all times.  If you have specific questions about costumes or accessories, please see the teacher of the class.

PROGRAM ADS - There is a separate flier with information regarding advertising in the recital program. This is a great memory book! You may choose to have student photos or a message to your student in the souvenir program.  They can be sponsored by local businesses or friends and relatives.  Group photos may be submitted and can be sponsored by parents or businesses.  Please use one form per ad submitted for publication.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING PHOTOS, ADS, OR MESSAGES FOR THE PROGRAM BOOK IS SATURDAY, MAY 3RD.

TICKETS - ALL PEOPLE OCCUPYING A SEAT MUST HAVE A TICKET.  (Students may attend the performance that they are NOT in at no charge, but they will need a student ticket).  During recital, students remain in their dressing rooms throughout the performance.  Preschool students enrolled in Creative Dance or Intro to Dance will be permitted to go in the auditorium AFTER INTERMISSION ONLY and must be changed out of their costumes.  They will also need a free student ticket.  On recital day, ticket holders will be admitted one half hour prior to show time. The student that sells the most tickets will receive FREE summer classes!

RECITAL TICKETS WILL BE $15.00 EACH if purchased at the dance studio in June. They may be paid by credit card or cash.  Tickets will also be available at dress rehearsals and at the door.

At the high school during rehearsals and recital, ALL SEATS ARE $20.00 CASH ONLY!!

FAMILIES WILL RECEIVE TWO TICKETS PER PRE-PAID RECITAL FEE.  These tickets will NOT be available at the door on the day of the show.  They must be picked up at the studio in June.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS are needed to make Showtime 2014 a success.  We need CLASS MOTHERS to supervise students at rehearsal and throughout the performance in dressing rooms; enforce safety rules, keep all students from class together and ready to perform.  This is one of the most important jobs!!  Please let us know if you can help with our recital in any way!!!

Saturday Evening will rehearse on Friday,  June 27

Students should bring all costumes, tights, dance shoes and stage makeup to rehearsals.  Younger students may also choose to bring a small game or book.  Dress rehearsal is a very LONG evening – but – very necessary prior to students going on stage.  This is the time when students will become confident and comfortable before the performance.  It is also the only opportunity for students to watch the other performers. There will be food and drink concessions during rehearsals.  DRESS REHEARSALS ARE OPEN TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS – NO GUESTS!!

VIDEOS – Parents may record videos and/or take photos during dress rehearsal only!!  NO CAMERAS, CELL PHONES, IPADS, OR OTHER VIDEO EQUIPMENT ARE PERMITTED DURING THE ACTUAL RECITAL!!  It is extremely distracting and disrespectful to performers and audience members to have cameras in the auditorium. It is also for SECURITY REASONS. You do not know where a video or picture of your child could show up unauthorized if it is randomly taken by someone else. Please cooperate! The performances will be professionally recorded. More Details will be coming from the videographer.

SHOWTIME 2014

“DANCING WITH OUR STARS”

We sincerely hope you enjoy the performances of this year’s students in Showtime 2014.  Please invite your friends to come and enjoy our production.  If you know any alumni students or any interested prospective students, please let them know the dates of our show.  If you have any questions about rehearsal and recital week, do not hesitate to ask.  We would like everything clear in advance so there is no confusion during recital week.  Additional information will be on bulletin boards and our website – chriscollinsdance.com

You are reminded that dress rehearsal is mandatory!  It is the time for students to gain confidence and parents to take photos.  It may seem a little crazy if this is your first long rehearsal, but, we trust you will enjoy the final production.

Parents are reminded of good theater etiquette that they can observe and pass on to their children.  Remain quietly seated while any performers are on stage.  Have the same respect for each performer as you would like others to have for your student.  We would like this to be a memorable event for all!

SOUVENIR T-SHIRTS

To commemorate Showtime 2014 will be available in June.  It is strongly recommended that you pre-order T-shirts with the attached form so you can be sure the students will receive one of the right size.  There are very limited quantities during rehearsal week.
