Lyrical / Contemporary

Lyrical blends both ballet and jazz styles of dance, while contemporary borrows technique from Modern (rounded shapes for lyrical, more angular for contemporary). Using the technique learned in ballet class, and the strength and flexibility gained through jazz, the dancers will learn to put those qualities together while expressing a story, or emotion. Dancers will improve flexibility, balance, and musicality. This class combines Lyrical and Contemporary styles and will include contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristics.

Lyrical / Contemporary Levels

At Chris Collins Dance Studio, we strive to provide the best dance education. Below you will find the Lyrical & Contemporary classes that we offer for students ages 9 through 18. For students younger than 9 years old please visit our CCDS Younger Dancers for more information. During the first few classes the instructor will be observing closely all dancers to ensure everyone is placed in the appropriate level. The Instructor along with the Studio Director will strive to provide the best education while instilling a love for dance. We look forward to seeing you in class!

Lyrical/Contemporary C

Dancers from ages 9 - 12 will use the technical foundation gained from ballet, and the strength and flexibility learned in jazz. They will learn to incorporate emotion and style to connect to the lyrics of the music.

Prerequisite: Students must be enrolled in a studio ballet class Level B or higher concurrently.
Class size: maximum 13
Length of Class: 45 min.
Ages: 9 - 12 Years old

Lyrical/Contemporary D

Dancers from ages 13 - 18 will continue to build on the technique and performance quality learned in Intermediate Lyrical/Contemporary, and add more intricate turns, leaps, and jumps. They will continue to explore the style and emotion of Lyrical/Contemporary and learn how to tell a story using movements and expression.

Prerequisite: Students must be enrolled in a studio ballet class Level B or higher concurrently.
Class size: maximum 13
Length of Class: 45 min.
Ages: 13 - 18 Years old


Attire

*Most listed dance attire is available for purchase at the studio

Girls:
     - Solid black or red leotard. Also, black or red sports bra is acceptable
     - Tan tights
     - Shoes at instructors recommendation
     - Black or red dance shorts can be worn
     - Hair in a neat bun or ponytail

Boys:
     - Red or black solid tee shirt or tank top
     - Black shorts or black athletic pants
     - Shoes at instructors recommendation
