Student of the Year & Performer of the Year
Since our first recital in 1977, we have selected an outstanding Student of the Year. In recent years, we have also recognized an outstanding Performer of the Year.
Both of these awards are now accompanied by scholarships. Often times there are many deserving students and it is difficult to choose the recipients.
The Student of the Year receives the Bill Collins Scholarship, which was established in June 2002. The student must be committed and dedicated in all classes and be a leader within the studio. Bill (Chris' dad) was extremely dedicated to the studio in every way. From helping in the office, to fitting shoes, to working backstage at recitals, Bill worked with the students and loved to watch their growth.
The Performer of the Year receives the Ruth Collins Scholarship, which was established in June 2005. Ruth (Chris' mom) never missed any performance - or rehearsal for that matter. She loved nothing more than to see the students perform. Many students can dance well, but, the overall Performer of the Year must excel within their own classes and on stage. She or he must be a total entertainer - someone that would have given Ruth Collins a joy to watch.
After receiving these honors, it is expected that the honorees continue to excel, and show complete dedication to the studio. They should inspire other dancers to reach for this goal in the future.
In June 2011, VICTORIA OLSZOWY was named the 35th Student of the Year. The honor of Performer of the Year was presented to COURTNEY LAPENTA. We are extremely proud of these deserving students, and are delighted that they serve as such great role models at CCDS.
